Privacy policy
How Meetle collects, uses, and protects your personal data. This policy is written to meet the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) and applies to everyone who uses Meetle.
Who we are
Meetle is operated by Meetle Technologies, a sole proprietorship registered in India under Udyam registration UDYAM-TN-14-0113044 and based in Namakkal, Tamil Nadu, India. Under the DPDP Act we are the Data Fiduciary for the personal data described here — meaning we decide why and how it is processed, and we are accountable for it.
For any question about this policy, or to exercise any right described in it, write to support@meetle.app.
Who can use Meetle
Meetle is strictly for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. You confirm your date of birth during signup, and our systems reject any date of birth under 18 years old.
If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we delete the account and its data. If you believe a minor is using Meetle, report it immediately to grievance@meetle.app.
What we collect
We collect only what the app needs to work. Specifically:
- Account and identity — your name, date of birth, gender, and the email address associated with the Google account you sign in with. We do not receive or store your Google password.
- Profile — your profile photo, additional photos you add to your gallery, a short bio, your interest tags, and your city.
- Approximate location — your coordinates are rounded to roughly one kilometre on your device before they are ever sent to us. We use this to show plans near you and to sort a dating feed by distance. We never store your precise location, and we never track you in the background.
- Venue locations — when you host a plan, the location you pin for the meetup venue. This is a public place you choose, not your home.
- Plans and participation — the plans you host or join, your join requests, and their status.
- Messages and media — the text, photos, and videos you send in chats, including view-once media. These are stored so conversations work across your devices and so that reported conversations can be reviewed.
- Calls — for voice and video calls, we store who called whom, when, how long it lasted, and how it ended. We do not record the audio or video content of any call.
- Safety data — your trusted contacts' names and phone numbers, safety reports you file (including any evidence you upload), users you block, and SOS events including the location at the moment you triggered them.
- Ratings — the score and tags you give other members after a meetup, which combine into a trust score.
- Memories — photos you post to the memories feed after a completed plan, and the approvals of everyone in that plan.
- Dating mode data — if and only if you turn dating mode on: your dating bio and photos, what you say you are looking for, your dating ads, your likes and passes, and your matches and their messages. What you are looking for romantically is sensitive data, and we treat it that way. Turning dating mode off hides you from the dating feed.
- Device and technical data — a push notification token so we can notify you, your device platform, your app version, and crash and error diagnostics.
- Consent records — a timestamped ledger of every consent you grant or withdraw, which the DPDP Act requires us to keep.
What we do not collect
We want to be precise about this, because trust and safety apps are often vague here.
- We do not currently perform government ID or Aadhaar verification, and we do not collect ID documents or biometric data. Accounts today are verified by Google sign-in only. Where the app shows a "verified" badge, it means a verified sign-in — not a verified government ID. If we introduce ID verification later, we will ask for your explicit consent first and update this policy.
- We do not record the contents of voice or video calls.
- We do not track your location in the background or when the app is closed.
- We do not read your phone's contact list. Trusted contacts are the ones you type in yourself.
- We do not sell your personal data to anyone, and we do not share it with advertisers.
Why we use it, and on what basis
We process your data on the basis of the consent you give during signup, and you can withdraw that consent at any time by deleting your account.
- To run your account and show you a profile.
- To show plans and, in dating mode, people near you.
- To deliver your messages, media, and calls.
- To operate safety features — reports, blocks, SOS, trusted contacts — and to investigate abuse.
- To calculate trust scores from completed meetups and ratings.
- To send notifications you have turned on.
- To detect crashes and fix bugs.
- To comply with law, including the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules.
Who else sees your data
Other members see only what you would expect them to: your profile, the plans you host or join, and the messages you send them. Your precise location, email address, date of birth, trusted contacts, blocks, and reports are never shown to other members.
We use a small number of processors who handle data on our behalf, under contract, and only for the purposes below:
- Supabase — our database, authentication, file storage, and realtime messaging. Your data is stored in the Mumbai, India region.
- Google — sign-in (Google Sign-In), maps and venue display (Google Maps Platform), and push notification delivery (Firebase Cloud Messaging).
- Meetle Connect — our own self-hosted calling infrastructure, running on servers in Mumbai, India, which carries voice and video calls. Call media passes through it; it is not recorded.
- OpenStreetMap / Nominatim — when you search for a place by name, your search text is sent to look up matching locations. It is not linked to your account.
- Sentry — crash and error diagnostics, so we can find and fix bugs.
We also disclose data where the law requires it — for example a valid order from a court or a competent authority — or where it is necessary to protect someone's safety.
Where your data is stored
Your data is stored in India, in the Mumbai region, on both our database and our calling infrastructure. Some processors listed above may process limited technical data outside India in the course of delivering their service — for example push notification routing and crash diagnostics.
How long we keep it
- Account data — until you delete your account, after which it is removed.
- Messages — messages are not editable or deletable by the sender, by design, so that a reported conversation cannot be scrubbed by the person being reported. Deleting or archiving a chat hides it from you; it does not delete the other person's copy. All of it goes when you delete your account.
- View-once media — becomes unreadable by both people the moment it is viewed, then is permanently deleted after a seven-day window during which it can still be produced for a moderation or legal complaint.
- Safety reports, blocks, and SOS events — retained after account deletion where we need them to keep other members safe or to meet a legal obligation.
- Consent records — retained as long as the law requires.
Your rights
Under the DPDP Act you have rights over your data, and they are built into the app rather than hidden behind a support queue. Open Settings, then "Privacy and data", where you can:
- See what we hold about you.
- Download all of it in a machine-readable file.
- Delete your account and its data.
- Review your full consent history.
You also have the right to correct inaccurate data — you can edit your profile directly — and the right to nominate someone to exercise these rights on your behalf if you die or become incapacitated. To nominate someone, write to support@meetle.app.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
How we protect your data
- Every table in our database enforces row-level security, so one member's data cannot be read by another even if a bug reaches the database.
- Photos, chat media, and evidence uploads live in private storage and are served only through short-lived signed links.
- Your location is coarsened on your device before it is sent.
- Screenshots and screen recording are blocked throughout the app, so a conversation or profile cannot be quietly captured.
- Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your personal data, we will notify you and the Data Protection Board as the DPDP Act requires.
Grievance officer
In line with the DPDP Act and the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, our grievance officer is:
Thamaraikannan R
Email: grievance@meetle.app
Namakkal, Tamil Nadu, India
We acknowledge complaints within 24 hours and resolve them within 15 days. Reports of non-consensual intimate imagery are actioned within 24 hours, and we aim to remove such content within 2 hours of a valid report.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy materially, we will tell you in the app and ask you to agree again before you continue. The version and date at the top of this page always tell you which policy you agreed to.
